Contain small amounts of hydrocarbon waxes that tend to precipitate in large interlocking crystals at low temperatures. These hydrocarbon waxes are largely normal paraffin. This interlocking of the crystals sets up a gel structure that causes the fuel oil to lose its fluidity.
